Starting Over

After my last post I got a few comments that maybe Jonathan had acid reflux. My first thought was, "duh! I should have realized that before."
That day I called the doctor and they told us to come in. Getting there turned out to be quite the ordeal when I loaded all the kids in the car and it wouldn't start and my appointment was in 5 minutes! They moved his appointment up 20 minutes. After trying to jump the car and not having it start, Jonathan screaming in the car, and Daniel starting to cry because he wanted to go to the doctor and watch movies; I wondered if it could get any worse. Nathan got home just in time and I threw Jonathan in the Prizm and we were off. We got there late, but they saw me. Thank goodness!
I told the doctor all his symptoms. Not sleeping well, screaming like he was in pain, screaming all the time, spit up, gagging and then swallowing, nursing sometimes every 30 minutes to comfort himself (or possibly soothe his sore throat), "violent" hiccups, and always needing to burp. She said it sounded like acid reflux (even when he started to cry she said that he had a "hoarse" cry that sounded like a reflux baby cry) and gave us a prescription for Zantac, and he HATES it!
I am happy to announce that I have a new baby. It's like starting over. I couldn't believe it yesterday when he laid on the floor by himself for 10 minutes without crying. He even eats then falls asleep for a few hours just like a newborn baby is suppose to. Last night he slept from 11:00-3:45am. It was so nice! I am so happy that he is feeling better. Even looking at him he looks different. Happy and content. Thank you to all who helped me.

I figured from what you were saying that it had to be Acid reflux, just like Sadie. She also had that horsie voice when she cried. Zantac is the best, it has totally changed Sadie as well. It is yucky tasting, but I just put it in her formula and that works great. The doctor said that was fine to do. I am glad he is better for you.

I'm so glad that did it for you.
Isn't it such a relief when something works???? :)
You could ask the doctor for prevacid. It comes in disovable tabs that you put in a little water in a syringe and it's strawberry flavored. My baby LOVES it! You might want to find something that he can tolerate so you dont have to fight every night! You'll probably have to give it to him for a pretty long time..
I'm very glad it worked!!

Just a note, We tried that Prevacid and it did not work as well, Zantac is a lot better. And with our insurance I am not sure who you have, but we have Altius and they had to call the doctor and get it authorized for us to use the Prevacid and it costs a lot more. Anyway just a thought. And like I said before if you put Zantac in a bottle just for the morning and night feeding he won't even now. I know you are nursing, but if you pump at all you could use the bottles then. Sawyer didn't like it as well just taking it, but Sadie was ok.That is why we put it in the bottles. And it does work great in the bottles. Good Luck!

My kids liked the flavor of Pepcid better than Zantac, for what it's worth. They cost about the same, too. This time around, they actually had me give Katie Prevacid solu tabs cut into half, which should have worked better than Pepcid in theory but actually didn't. Glad you've found a solution - refluxing babies are hard!

Yay! I'm so glad that it's helping. Nothing is worse than having your baby upset all the time.
