Appendicitis

Many of you know that I had my appendix out yesterday. So here is the story...

Tuesday afternoon I started having some indigestion. I took some tums and I kept eating helping that would help. But it didn't really. By night time, I felt like I had food poisoning. By Wednesday morning, the pain in my stomach had gotten better, but now I had pain on my right side. It really hurt, especially to move, but I didn't feel sick. Nathan thought I should go to the doctor, but I because I didn't feel sick, I felt dumb going. So, I sent him off to work. About 30 minutes after he left, I felt like I was getting worse. I also had this feeling that something was wrong, and I didn't want to admit it to myself. Nathan came home from work and his dad came over and watched the kids until we could find out where grandma had disappeared to and we went to the hospital. We opted for the hospital route insted of an Instacare because if it did end up being appendicitis, we would already be there.

We got to the hospital and it was really quick, we didn't even have to wait very long. They took blood, gave me an ultrasound which proved inconclusive and then gave me a CT scan. The CT scan showed I had appendicitis, so they scheduled me for surgery. When it was time for me to go into surgery, I was SO ready. I felt like I was in labor. I was curled up in my bed, and all I could say was "Just come and get me, take it out. Just take it out!" From the time they wheeled me into the OR to the time they brought me back to my room, it had only been an hour. So, it was fast. When I started coming out of anesthesia, I was so groggy, but the first thing I remember thinking was how there was no more pain. It was wonderful. I was also relieved to find out that my appendix had not burst.

I spent all of Wednesday night really sleepy and puking because anesthesia and I don't get along. But by this morning I was feeling better and ready to go home. Now I am just really really sore. It feels like I have just had a baby, and I wonder if this is what it feels like to have a c-section, except for the fact that all I had was laprascopic. It hurts to nurse Jonathan and I have tried to do the "football" hold which works okay. He's a trooper. So, now I have about a weeks recovery in front of me. And then I'll never have to worry about my appendix again.
